Policy 2 - Anti-Virus Software Policy

1.0 Purpose

The purpose of this policy is to establish clear guidelines & requirements for the implementation and upkeep of anti-virus solutions to protect ºìÐÓ¶ÌÊÓÆµ State University from cyber threats. Any questions or comments about this policy should be directed to Information Systems.

2.0 Scope

This policy applies to all owned and operated ºìÐÓ¶ÌÊÓÆµ devices which can support anti-virus or endpoint protection software.

3.0 Policy

Additional anti-virus software or alternate endpoint protection will not be installed in place of or alongside ºìÐÓ¶ÌÊÓÆµ supported software without clearance from Information Systems. Always run Information Systems approved endpoint protection software on all ºìÐÓ¶ÌÊÓÆµ devices. This should also be kept updated to a version supported by the provider. All machines should also follow the Anti-Virus Standards which further state ºìÐÓ¶ÌÊÓÆµ State's stance on anti-virus software and proper use. All ºìÐÓ¶ÌÊÓÆµ devices must be current on patches and have installed, and up to date, valid anti-virus software prior to conducting business.

4.0 Enforcement

Anyone found to have violated this policy may be subject to disciplinary action according to personnel policies and procedures. Students may be referred to Student Affairs for discipline. A violation of this policy by a temporary worker, contractor or vendor may result in action up to and including termination of their contract or assignment with ºìÐÓ¶ÌÊÓÆµ State University.

5.0 Definitions

Endpoint Protection

  • Endpoint protection refers to a valid application meant to combat viruses, malware and other known threats. ºìÐÓ¶ÌÊÓÆµ will maintain and identify an endpoint protection product that must be installed on all ºìÐÓ¶ÌÊÓÆµ devices.
